Mary Baron's title Wheat Among Bones recalls that a sprig of wheat growing between crossed bones was a Renaissance emblem for hope. She has written a passionate and formal book which is a ‘woman’s song,’ a beautiful twentieth-century song that hopefully will help us survive our new noise and new silence.

MARY BARON teaches Writing and Literature at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. She was previously at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Her other books are Letters for the New England Dead and Storyknife (Sheep Meadow Press).
