"[Pamela Painter] is a writer who seems to revel in setting herself new challenges, in trying to get inside a host of different characters who move through vastly different worlds. Even within a single story, she can slide effortlessly from one character’s point of view to another’s. . . . This is a virtuoso performance, graceful and brave and full of feeling."—Alida Becker, The New York Times

She is also the author of The Long and Short of It (Carnegie Mellon, 1999), and co-author of What If? Writing Exercises for Fiction Writers.
