A collection of poems by Eve Shelnutt

These poems deal with memory, passion, loss, longing, and with relationships—some broken, some splendidly evolving. Populated with characters we wish we knew actually, Shelnutt’s poems engage the mind and the heart. As her characters experience fresh understanding and crucial informative moments, we too evolve and become more deeply human.

“Written with spare and vivid imagery, in shades of humor and from wells of loss, Shelnutt’s poems offer a moving study of love, family, and isolation. Most striking is the humility of perspective; despite the depths the poems probe. When We Were Cherished carries the light of language into memory where mystery still darkens the recesses.”—Daniel Lowe

EVE SHELNUTT is the author of three previous volumes of poetry published by Carnegie Mellon University Press, including her latest collection of short stories: The Girl, Painted.
