“…a great way to engage a child’s interest in pirates and early American history.”—ForeWord: The Magazine of Independent Publishing

A powerful, true story about a young boy’s encounter with a band of mutineers who, much to the boy’s surprise, leave him a remarkable memento

In sparkling prose, acclaimed author William Jaspersohn retells a powerful, true story about a young boy’s encounter with a band of mutineers who, much to the boy’s surprise, leave him a remarkable
memento. Illustrator Vernon Thornblad’s vibrant oil paintings thrillingly capture both the beauty and danger of young William’s world, and Jaspersohn’s deft, swift narrative recalls those classic tales of good and evil, innocence and experience, imagined deeds and true adventure.

WILLIAM JASPERSOHN has written more than 20 children’s books, including How the Forest Grew (a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award winner) and The Ballpark (a New York Times Best Book and American Book Award nominee). In 2000, Yankee magazine named his Family Heritage Series book, The Two Brothers, a Top 40 Classic New England Children’s Book. Jaspersohn lives in Johnson, Vermont. VERNON THRONBLAD, a painter and illustrator, is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. As a toy designer, he created Bendos™, an award-winning line of bend able, posable action figures.
