Reviews / Endorsements

“Ligon’s spare, elegant prose allows each person and place to be revealed in simple, truthful detail, without getting bogged down by the excesses that trap so many lesser authors. Drift and Swerve is a compelling collection of stories that aren’t just stories: They are the most intimate moments of the ordinary lives of the people you pass on the street.”—Jennifer Kane, Long Island Press

Drift and Swerve is an extraordinary collection–fourteen feverish stories propelled by Samuel Ligon’s vigorous, perfect prose. Darkly funny and surprisingly moving, these tales of collision and escape feature unforgettable characters, like Nikki, who careens through the book’s hard America with a ferocious, incurable case of hope.”—Jess Walter

SAMUEL LIGON is the author of two novels—Among the Dead and Dreaming and Safe in Heaven Dead—and two collections of stories, Wonderland, illustrated by Stephen Knezovich, and Drift and Swerve. His stories have appeared in Prairie Schooner, The New England Review, Post Road, Okey-Panky, Alaska Quarterly Review, Gulf Coast, New Orleans Review, and elsewhere. His essays appear in the Inlander. He’s the editor of Willow Springs and the artistic director of the Port Townsend Writers’ Conference. He teaches at Eastern Washington University in Spokane.
