“Ms. Cowger’s narrators are unflinching and straightforward in recounting the drama and devastation of their lives and others...The author's prose is unembellished and constant... [continued in Reviews below]”—Mackenzie Smith, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The characters in Ashley Cowger's short stories learn to accept the fear, the regret, and the beauty of growing up in a world where Peter Pan will never come. The lives portrayed here are firmly planted in reality, a place where dreams loom only as hope on a farway horizon.

Reviews / Endorsements

“Ms. Cowger’s narrators are unflinching and straightforward in recounting the drama and devastation of their lives and others...The author's prose is unembellished and constant; her characters need, above all, for someone to listen and for the pain of their stories to have meaning...[T]here is plenty of truth and beauty in the confessional nature of Ms. Cowger’s compelling stories.”—Mackenzie Smith, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

“Ashley Cowger writes about childhood with a striking blend of cynicism and innocence. Each piece surprises in its fresh approach, its recasting of fairytales and childhood memories into fresh new shapes—a wonderfully realized debut by a young writer on the rise.”—David Crouse
